k so i have a dog whos really healthy, even when theres no one to throw the ball for him he runs around alll the time. but ever since we got him when he was about 3 he's had broken and chipped teeth.. mostly from running into things. he still chips his teeth everyonce in a while. i think his teeth are really starting to hurt him. he doesnt show pain, he's just always happy. but i think he only eats when he's really really hungry because it hurts his teeth more. it makes me so sad, but we dont have the money to fix his teeth and i dont know what we should do. he still eats, and hes always happy.. but i have a feeling he's in a lot of pain
im only 16 and i live with my mom, but what should we do? i feel like an aweful person
:[ my doggies teeth hurt..?
Well you can start by feeding him soft food. Crunching away on hard dog food will probably be hurting his teeth.
You can either by soft food in the cans or soak his dry food in chicken broth or other gravy to soften it up.
Reply:Contact the humane society ... they sometimes offer reduced cost spay and neutering ... they may know of a vet who will offer services at a reduced fee. Orange popsickles are good for teething pain in puppies ... maybe it would help numb the pain in your dog as well.
Reply:You should take him to the Vet and have his mouth checked for those chipped teeth. Some of those can have infections from embedded pieces that broke off or his gums can become damaged as well.
Even though he is still eating I would worry since he only seems to eat when it absolutely necessary. Teeth can become bad in a hurry and are expensive to take care of when he gets that far.
If you need help paying the bill have your mom check out this site:
www.carecredit.com
It is a low or no interest credit card for Vet and some human medical bills.
Good luck and hope your doggie feels better soon!
Reply:I have a dog that was born with rotten teeth and still has them. What I did was got some canned petigree soft food and it doesn't hurt his teeth...best of luck~

Reply:Take him to a vet and see what they suggest. Usually, any treatment you get at a vet is cheaper at the SPCA. Try to supervise him more and keep him from running into things (reduce the amount of things he can run into that would chip or break his teeth) to worsen the problem. Also, you can feed him soft or wet food, but carefully and gently clean his teeth more often because wet food develops tartar and plaque more rapidly and more abundantly than dry food. As Cat Scratch said, you might want to have your mom check out http://carecredit.com/ if you need help paying a vet bill. I hope you found this helpful and I hope your dog gets better! Good Luck!
