My teeth HURT! What should I do?!?!? Any answers are accepted, best will be chosen?!?!? JUST HELP?!?!?

Teeth issues?! Help me?!?! This is like an EMERGENCY!?

One of my teeth has gradually turned into a blackish gray lump. What has happened to it? also, I have several visible holes in my teeth, and it hurts horribly to chew. I haven't had the money in the past, so I've been neglecting my dental health. When I was a child, I hated my dentist, but I don't need sedation dentistry. When I go to the dentist, will it hurt? WHAT WILL THEY DO TO ME?!?! :-( I hate dentists. What can I do to improve my poor oral hygiene?

first thing to do tomorrow is visit the dentist. you're options vary as who you want to see. if money's an issue, try a dental school or community health center, but note that it'll be awhile before someone will see you for more definitive treatment. however, you will receive palliative treatment for any pain, like antibiotics and/or pain killers. if money isn't you can go to a local licensed dentist in your area.

usually, the 'black lumps' are cavities. and when cavities reach the nerve part of teeth or come close, you experience pain. when this occurs, the treatment is a filing or a root canal, a crown, post, and/or core, depending on which tooth it is. be aware, it can get expensive. but the prices are generally cheaper at a dental schools!

going to dentist is so that your teeth won't hurt. you will get novacaine so that could hurt at first, but it's so that the rest of the procedure will go hurt-free.

best case is that you just get your teeth filled and that's it. worst case would be the root canal and crown mentioned above.

go sooner than later. it's not really an emergency, till you get an infection associated with the 'grey parts', but you won't know that till you see the dentist or you can't sleep for a week.

try applying for state health insurance like medicaid. in mass, it's called mass health or health net. it covers alot of basic work.

good luck and bring a list of meds you take, medical history, allergy list, etc. wherever you go.
Reply:your blackish gray lump is decay. that tooth is a goner. say goodbye to it now. holes in your teeth is decay. you will need filling. that is, if the decay isn't too bad. then, if it is, you might have to say bye bye to those teeth as well. sedation dentistry has nothing to do with anything in your paragraph. go see your dentist before disease starts to set in.
Reply:go and find out. It can't be as bad a you think.

Best answer please.
Reply:You need to go see a dentist. When you call to make an appointment, tell the person that answer the phone you need an oral exam. When you get to the back, I suggest you tell the assistant you want an overall exam and tell them which places are hurting you. You should also tell her that you are nervous. I personally have pity on people who are afraid. I comfort them by telling them exactly what I will be doing. To improve your oral hygiene, I suggest you brush 2x daily, floss daily and use a fluoride mouthrinse daily. Be brave, you will be okay.
Reply:OK, you need to get into the dentist right away. Call to get an appointment, when you do, tell them your fears and concerns. If they know you are apprehensive, they will treat you very gently and go slowly with everything.

As for what they will do....they will take a full set of xrays and draw up a treatment plan. This will outline everything in your mouth that needs to be fixed- including prices and options (if there are options, like root canal or extraction for a particular tooth) Most likely someone will sit down and explain this to you.

Then you can ask your dentist which teeth are the first priority and start from there.

The blackish gray tooth is probably full of decay. It might need a root canal and crown. Or if it's not salvageable, then it will need to be extracted. The visible holes will need to be filled. And don't be surprised if some of those teeth need root canals too. All that is done while you are numb- the worst you can expect is a pinch when they numb you and maybe some soreness after the treatment. If it's a more serious treatment (root canal, extraction etc) on a tooth that already has pain, the Dr may prescribe you pain meds for the first day or two after the procedure. If there are any signs of infection, the Dr will prescribe an antibiotic and it's important to take those faithfully.

It's really not that bad. I put off going to the dentist for a long time because we didn't have dental insurance. Then I was embarrassed to go, then I HAD to go because I was in pain. Now I'm SO happy i went and I'm getting things taken care of.

Please don't wait any longer. The longer you wait, the more pain you will endure, you will risk infection and excruciating pain. It will cost you more money too.
