Why is it that my teeth hurt more the day after wisdom tooth removal?

Yesterday, i was well enough to open my mouth at least 2 fingers and didn't have to take the vicodin I was perscribed, just tylenol and steroids. I used ice on my cheeks for swelling, 30 mins on and 30 mins off, and ate all soft foods like pudding and applesauce... but my mouth really didn't hurt that much. I woke up early and took more meds this morning (still tylenol, I didn't need vicodin...), meaning to actually go to school today, but it didn't really feel like th e meds worked, and in fact, my mouth hurts more today than it did yesterday, and that was right after the surgery!

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed prematurely (they weren't poking through the gum yet, and hadn't even grown roots) because i couldn't wear my retainer because of them... I don't know I just am upset that I had to miss a second day of school...

the Novocaine they use is very strong and can last up to 24 hours or longer depending on the person just make sure after eating that you clean out your mouth well, stop infection, and don't use straws or smoke they can cause dry sockets
Reply:Same thing happened to me after my wisdom teeth were taken out. It may be cause the medicine they gave you at the dentist office is fully out of your system, which are usually really strong than tylenol.
Reply:Inflammation. It is basically a bruise/injury that was numb the day before so it did not hurt. The day after the inflammation is usually worse b/c the body is now reacting to the injury.
