Why do my teeth hurt after a workout?

I've noticed that after I play football, (soccer for Americans) for some strange reason my teeth hurt for approximately one hour afterwards. I brush 3 times daily, floss and don't have a sweet tooth so my teeth are in pretty good shape. I'm wondering why this occurs, is it normal and is it something to be concerned about?

Your gums might be in bad shape and inflamed. While you're working out your heartbeat increases and pushes your blood harder, which may worsen the inflammation.

I'd suggest that you swing by your doctor and just have them give you a once-over, just to be on the safe side.
Reply:Maybe you grind your teeth while you're playing, but you just don't notice. Chewing gum or wearing some kind of mouth guard might help prevent that. Also, if you brush too hard it'll make your teeth and gums really sensitive. Try brushing your teeth only two times a day, three seems a little excessive.
Reply:If you don't wear a mouth guard you are probably clamping down too hard on your teeth when you play football. Also, try using a soft tooth brush instead of a firm one. The soft ones are better for your teeth.
Reply:abscessed tooth

cracked crown, filling or root

periodontal infection

All of the above are culprits.
Reply:Maybe it's because you have a cavity or something like that.
