i got my braces on yesterday and my teeth hurt when i bite down. so i have been eating softs foods. how much longer will they hurt and i can eat anything.
How long with my teeth hurt?
They're going to hurt a few days and everytime you have them tightened they are going too hurt again.
Stay away from corn on the cob, caramels, juju beans.
Okay to chew gum but not the sticky kind.
Reply:hmm give it a week :)
Reply:like less then 2 weeks
Reply:They will hurt for about 3 days maybe 5 days maximum. Everytime you go back to the orthodontist they will 'tightened' them and the process starts again and it will hurt for another 3-5days.
Reply:When I got braces, back in the day, when I was a teenager, it took a day or two for my teeth to be able to bite down into something. I couldnt even eat a bean burrito from Taco Bell, it hurt that bad. Just stick with soft foods for the next couple days and you should be ok. ...
Be prepared though, everytime you go get your braces tightened, you are going to go through the same thing all over again.
Reply:about a week. But don't worry, it wont be sore when you get them tightened. Now if you get the rubberbands that go from top to bottom... that's another story.
Reply:3 days. And it will hurt when you have braces and eat certain food like skittles and stuff. But most of the pain should be gone in about 3 days from the day you got them.
Reply:I am getting braces soon and people tell me it takes about two-three days till the pain stops.
Reply:I say in a few days you may be able to eat harder foods but every time they tighten them it will hurt the next day and don't expect to eat anything to out there. We always were stalked up on soup and stuff for the 24-36 hours after the ortho appointments. You;ll get used to them soon though and you won't have to eat mashed potatoes the whole time you are wearing them i promise
Reply:i got my braces about 2 months ago and yes they killed but mine lasted about3 weeks tops but my teeth r very delicate so for u it might hert for about 2 weeks tops.
Reply:Okay when I had mine it lasted about a week.
And when you get your braces tightened it might be sore but not as sore as when you first got them.
Reply:About a week and a half but you'll still need to avoid hard or chewy foods like peanuts or taffy, also chips can be tricky when wearing braces.
Reply:may be 3 days

Upper respiratory infection making teeth hurt??
The Dr. told me that I have an upper respiratory infection Monday.. I had already been sick since about last Wednesday.. I thought the cold would go away if I self medicated myself, obviously it didn't work.. I'm still sick and I'm taking all the drugs the Dr gave me (antibiotic and decongestant). But now for some reason my teeth hurt really bad, like down in the roots.. It's my entire bottom row front and back.. It hurts worse when I blow my nose, and when I breath in through my mouth and air goes over them.. What is going on?? I think it's just my sinuses because of the cold, I've never been sick this long especially with the antibiotics... I'll prob call the doc tomorrow and ask what's going on I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before????
Upper respiratory infection making teeth hurt??
sinusitis, that is one of the symptoms of sinusitis is pain in the upper teeth and you feel a lot of pressure in the face and cheeks and the head. It will take atleast 10-14 days for it to get better. Drink lots of fluids and spray saline into the nasal passages and place heat over the cheek bones. This is acute sinusitis. Once you have sinusits, then it often recurrs. It takes awhile for it to drain. Also go under steam and drink hot fluids. Sinusitis can follow a cold often times and sometimes you'll get sinusits if your septum is deviated and allergies too. The key is moisture in your nose. Take all your antibiotics.
Reply:Maybe it's a sinus infection. My doctor said a cold should never last more than a week, after that it's probably an infection. Also a sinus infection usually requires a 10 day or more treatment of antibiotics. Hope you get well soon.

Should my gums and teeth hurt like this still?!?
I got my wisdom teeth out last Wednesday. Over the weekend I had a really bad salty taste in my mouth and some more pain which led me to believe that I had an infection. Today though, the taste isn't really there anymore, but now I feel like my gums are reallllllly swollen. It feels as if something is poking into my cheeks, but all I feel up there is my gums. My other teeth also seem to hurt, I don't know whats goin on...help!! haha
it's not seirous pain its just annoying and discomforting
Should my gums and teeth hurt like this still?!?
Did you get all of them taken out at once? It could just be some leftover, splintered bits of tooth working their way out. When you had the salty taste in your mouth, were you bleeding at the time?
I've had quite a few dental abscesses (infections) before, and they hurt continuously, and they hurt BAD. Did your dentist put you on any antibiotics? They generally only do so if you're in one of the "at risk" groups (as in, if you've had endocarditis before, or have a heart problem, etc).
For the swelling, you can try taking ibuprofen. Ibuprofen acts specifically on inflammation, so it should help. You can safely take anywhere from 200mg's - 800mg's, but start out with a low dose, then work your way up as needed. Your dentist should have given you a prescription for some pain medicine, like tylenol with codeine, or vicodin.
If it's still bothering you a lot at this point, you may just want to call your dentist, and ask him/her about it.
Hope you feel better soon. ;o)
Reply:i just got mine extracted two weeks ago. its just some discomfort and i felt like i had gums hanging on the side of my tooth. the pain to your other tooth may just be some sensitivity. usually they make u go back to the office for a follow up. if your really worried just call them and tell them ur concern
Reply:Yeah. Wisdom teeth removal takes a little while to return to normal. Not even a week yet..I would say, if it gets worse, go to a doctor/dentist right away. If it still seems to be not getting much better by this friday for sure, give your dentist a call..he may have left some surgical insrtuments in your gums
:)
Reply:Remember to flush them with a syringe or eye dropper type thing. Food can get crammed in there. I had an entire hot dog lodged in there once.
Reply:Changes in taste sensation can be caused by painkillers/antibotics or just having had your teeth pulled, but should return to normal, if your still worried in a week go back to have them looked at. In the meantime, perfectly normal. Part of your other teeth hurting is so many nerves are affected when you have any tooth pulled it can seem like other teeth hurting when it's just the one nerve being sensitive.Like how kids pull at thier ears when they are teething. Don't be poking or sticking anything in your gums/sockets because it will make it worse and more likey to be infected. Also if you smoke anything it takes much longer for your gums to heal. The best idea so far would to make sure you take all your meds and follow your dentists aftercare instructions on brushing and any rinising,if you use a rinse becareful not to rip your stiching/sockets more, more like tilt your head and let it get where it gets by itself. you still shouldn't use straws or eat a lot of food that has to be chewed really well or anything like chips. Always stay up on your pain it's easier to prevent than treat once it's full blown, the same goes for inflamation, so if you've stepped down on an anti-inflamtory thinking it's all better, don't. Some peoples teeth also just take longer to heal or have more complications than others for no real fault on the persons behalf. Pain can tend to come and go based on what you eat/drink , so see if you can find any connection. It takes awhile for your teeth to heal and it's just annoying while they do it.

I have braces on and when I bite down my back teeth hurt on my right side. Why????????
When I got my braces I had two baby teeth still in. I lost the one on my left side first, and about 7 days later, I lost the one on my right side. A few days after Iost my last baby tooth, it hurt whenever I bit down and my teeth touched on that side. Sometimes, it even hurt my front teeth. I think I noticed my back teeth shifting to make room for the tooth, but they aren't lined up anymore because of it! Is this something to worry about??????? I am going to the ortho in 9 days for a tightening and will he notice a problem??? P.S When I wake up in the morning it doesn't hurt, but as the day goes on and I bite down more it hurts.

dont worry..the same thing happened to me....braces are a tough thing...they are realli painful...this is ebcause your teeth have nerves....afer every tightening you have of your braces, it might even take you a week to get used to them!!
no worries! its all natural.
whenever i get my braces tightened, it also hurts when i bite down..
your teeth may be shifting back because maybe your ortho is trying to expand your mouth and no worries..at the end your teeth will be perfect!
Reply:It does sound like your teeth are just shifting. Pressure upon biting can mean many things so make sure you mention it to the orthodontist when you go. You can also call them let them know what is going on, they may want to see you sooner just to check and make sure everything is OK.
Reply:Probably is your teeth shifting to fill in the empty spaces. I would tell the othor. before he tightens your braces though. :)

Do you know why my teeth hurt 5 days after being hit in the side of the face?
I was hit in the side of the face 5 days ago. The next day, one of my teeth on that side of my face hurt when eating. Now, 5 days later, I have 4 teeth, all next to each other and in that area that have a sore/numb feeling. None of my teeth moved and there is no visible sign of anything being wrong. Also, there is no pain to the touch in my gums are on my cheek. Any ideas of what the problem could be?
Do you know why my teeth hurt 5 days after being hit in the side of the face?
your teeth run on separate nerves than your gums and cheeks. there may have been trauma/damage to the jaw bone and the nerves directly related to those specific teeth.
teeth can be damaged on the inside (nerve) and show no outward signs.
my suggestion would be to get some x-rays just to be sure there's no damage.

Why is it that my teeth hurt more the day after wisdom tooth removal?
Yesterday, i was well enough to open my mouth at least 2 fingers and didn't have to take the vicodin I was perscribed, just tylenol and steroids. I used ice on my cheeks for swelling, 30 mins on and 30 mins off, and ate all soft foods like pudding and applesauce... but my mouth really didn't hurt that much. I woke up early and took more meds this morning (still tylenol, I didn't need vicodin...), meaning to actually go to school today, but it didn't really feel like th e meds worked, and in fact, my mouth hurts more today than it did yesterday, and that was right after the surgery!
I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed prematurely (they weren't poking through the gum yet, and hadn't even grown roots) because i couldn't wear my retainer because of them... I don't know I just am upset that I had to miss a second day of school...
Why is it that my teeth hurt more the day after wisdom tooth removal?
the Novocaine they use is very strong and can last up to 24 hours or longer depending on the person just make sure after eating that you clean out your mouth well, stop infection, and don't use straws or smoke they can cause dry sockets
Reply:Same thing happened to me after my wisdom teeth were taken out. It may be cause the medicine they gave you at the dentist office is fully out of your system, which are usually really strong than tylenol.
Reply:Inflammation. It is basically a bruise/injury that was numb the day before so it did not hurt. The day after the inflammation is usually worse b/c the body is now reacting to the injury.
